Networks & Equipments - Inmarsat - FleetBroadband

Introduction

FleetBroadband is the first maritime communications service to provide cost-effective broadband data and voice, simultaneously, through a compact antenna on a global basis.

Characteristics

Flexible migration

FleetBroadband takes your vessel into the IP era. But if you're not quite ready to move to IP, it still supports the core ISDN capability of our existing services. Based on 3G standards, it provides constant, simultaneous access to voice and broadband data. Operational systems can be running online and you can still access email, the internet and make phone calls - all via a single terminal.

Capabilities

Standard IP

For email, internet and intranet access via a secure VPN connection, at speeds up to 432 kbps over a shared channel.

Streaming IP

Guaranteed data rates on demand up to 256 kbps. Choose the data rate on a case by case basis, depending on your application.

Voice

Make voice calls at the same time as accessing your data applications. Voicemail is also available. Group 3 fax is supported via the voice channel.

ISDN

Supports ISDN at 64kbps for your legacy applications.

SMS

Send and receive text messages – up to 160 characters.

Terminals

Three types of terminal with different performance capabilities are available from multiple manufacturers. All use stabilised, directional antennas and vary in size and weight.

FB150

FB150 is our entry-level service, specifically designed for small to medium-sized vessels. It offers standard IP up to 150 kbps. Antenna is 29.1 cm in diameter.

FB250

Offers Standard IP up to 284 kbps and Streaming IP up to 128 kbps. Antenna is 32 cm in diameter.

FB500

Offers Standard IP up to 432 kbps and Streaming IP up to 256 kbps. Antenna is 60 cm in diameter.

All the terminals are designed specifically for the marine environment and also support voice, fax (except FB150) and SMS.

Applications

FleetBroadband supports an extensive range of commercially available, off-the-shelf software, as well as specialised user applications. It is ideal for:
