CRITICAL INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS

Optimizing Industrial Operations
With Secure M2M

Context

A global leader in digital transaction and payment services, this client operates in sectors where the speed, security, and reliability of data exchanges are essential. Its infrastructure is spread across wide geographical areas, sometimes very isolated, where conventional terrestrial networks are limited or nonexistent.

In this context, every transaction, every data flow, and every supervisory operation must be processed in real-time, without interruption. The critical nature of these services makes a solution capable of ensuring continuity, security, and regulatory compliance indispensable, even in difficult and remote environments.

The Initiative

To address these challenges, a satellite connectivity solution was implemented, integrating secure M2M communications and reliable VPNs. It enables the continuous transmission of sensitive data from field-deployed equipment to central servers, even in areas without terrestrial coverage.

This approach aims to ensure communication stability, the protection of critical information, and operational continuity, while adhering to strict security and compliance requirements.

Identified Business Challenges

Continuity of Critical Operations

Any interruption, even temporary, could lead to transaction delays, lack of system supervision, and data gaps.

Security and Compliance

Unsecured links exposed sensitive data to compromise risks and could jeopardize compliance with strict requirements.

Operational Responsiveness and Quality of Service

To validate transactions and supervise equipment, reliable connectivity was essential for making fast and secure decisions.

As equipment was deployed to remote and isolated sites, it became evident that reliable and secure connectivity was essential for maintaining system supervision, ensuring regulatory compliance, and securing critical transactions.

The Impact of Connectivity Loss

In isolated environments and for critical operations, every moment of interruption can have direct consequences on transactions and system supervision.

In isolated areas without a terrestrial network, a temporary interruption prevented the transmission of critical transaction data to central servers, delaying the validation and processing of operations.

This communication failure exposed the systems to risks of non-compliance and limited real-time supervision of field-deployed equipment.

It highlighted the vulnerability of operations to unstable or unsecured links, triggering the need for a reliable, secure, and continuous satellite connectivity solution.

Approach and Solution Implemented

E-SAT proposed a BGAN M2M (Machine-to-Machine) solution leveraging Inmarsat’s global L-band network, known for its reliability in isolated areas. To ensure maximum data protection and operational integrity, E-SAT integrated a site-to-site IPSec VPN, establishing a secure and encrypted tunnel between each remote terminal and the client’s central infrastructure.
